Digital Lithic Design

Today’s new computerised mechanical tools for processing stone offer some incredible possibilities. Using these tools – some sort of “digital scalpels” – opens up a new scenario, in which humans, who keep having a central role, are now responsible for profoundly redesigning this material, with a view to enhancing its symbolic value, promoting durable use and reducing waste.

Through a collection of experimental marble works, the Digital Lithic Design exhibition aims to bring out the potential, technological excellence and processing capacity of Italy’s stone industry, combined with unmistakeable style and digital design.

Equipment manufacturers, software houses, tool makers, marble workers and miners of raw material have accepted the challenge of pushing their limits and showing the new opportunities that technology provides to the industry.
